Shoalhaven Neighbourhood Services Inc. operates a Social Support Program that has been developed to link
socially and/or geographically isolated community members who are over 65 yrs of age and/or younger people with a
disability and/or people in the early stages of Dementia with a
volunteer or worker to provide a range of social and support services
within the community.
Service is provided to all eligible residents in the Nth Shoalhaven region including; Berry, Bomaderry, Callala BayCallala Beach, Cambewarra, Culburra, Currarong, Greenwell Point, Kangaroo Valley, Myola, Nowra Orient Point, Shoalhaven Heads, Terara.
Our aim is to keep our clients active by enabling them to remain in their homes and accessing the community for as long as possible which assists in the prevention of premature admission into residential care. Using a person centered approach, the social support program offered to our clients assists them to build and maintain their independence and is one of the key ingredients in enabling them to stay in their own home.
Services we provide include:
• In home visiting/ companionship
• Small group activities and outings
• Assistance to take you shopping & to take you to pay your bills and attend appointments.
• Social outings/ activities such as; lunch out, coffee, concerts, movies or something as simple as continuing to attend existing groups, or join one.
NB: we do not provide financial assistance or vouchers.

VOLUNTEER POSITIONS AVAILABLE Please contact us if you are able to volunteer some of your time and would like to make a difference in someone’s life and your own by offering:
Companionship by making a friendly home visit
Social support by taking someone out for lunch or a coffee
Assist them shopping
Accompany to appointments.
The average minimum time of a visit is approximately 2 hours per fortnight – however this is negotiated with the client and volunteer, and you can have more than one client if you wish. Volunteer opportunities are available for both men and women.
Shoalhaven Neighbourhood Services provides training and support and reimburses for out of pocket expenses to all service volunteers in providing a valuable service to the community. While doing so, you will meet new people, learn new skills and put your existing skills to good use as well as gaining valuable work experience if you are looking for paid work.
Centrelink Volunteer Initiative Program: Shoalhaven Neighbourhood Services is a registered organisation for Centrelink’s Volunteer Initiative Program. Participants can easily gain their required Volunteering hours with our service.
The Social Support Program is funded by the Australian Government- Department of Social Services and the NSW State Government Family & Community Services Ageing, Disability and Home Care (ADHC).
